We started in 2010 where a lot of small consultancies start — file backup, web hosting, and a lot of other people’s servers — and where very few of them start: writing scientific software.
Those two threads never separated. The same shop keeping a small business’s mail flowing was also writing scientific visualization software for University of Texas research groups. Both jobs turned out to reward the same thing: infrastructure that is understood, reproducible, and handed back.
Backups, hosting, and scientific code
We opened as a file backup, web hosting, and scientific software consultancy. On one side, small businesses that needed a site, a mail server, and someone to call. On the other, University of Texas groups that needed scientific visualization software written and kept working.
Two customers, one discipline
From one rack to a cluster
Hosting became colocation, colocation became a clustered virtualization fleet, and the fleet grew into managed VPS, private mail and DNS, and blockchain project hosting. The scientific work grew alongside it — from visualization code into build systems, packaging, and the unglamorous machinery that lets research software outlive its authors.
The same operator, at every scale
Four practice areas
We now work with data centers, high-performance computing groups in private industry, academic research groups, and military institutions — alongside the small businesses and independent projects we have hosted since the beginning. The 2010 customer and the AI/HPC operator get the same shop.
Grown, not replaced
And we work in the open. We build and own our own tools: the cvcpkg hermetic package manager and registry for the scientific stack — including WebAssembly builds of libraries nobody else ships — and the tx.wtf federated platform, alongside Direct Connect protocol software and fixes pushed back upstream to the projects everyone depends on. See practice area 03.
Handed back, not held. Across all four practice areas we would rather leave you the capability than the retainer: documented, reproducible, and operable by your own team. An engagement that ends cleanly is the goal, not the risk.
